The Neukoelln district around the ex airport Tempelhof contains 2 small Kiez „Kornerkiez“ and „Schillerkiez“ which have changed their face in the last 10 years. After the closure of the Airport in 2008 and after the referendum in 2014 won by the voters which rejected the development planes, the area became an important melting point and huge park which gave to all the people a free public place for playing, walking, biking, skating eating and overall socializing. Tempelhof Airport remains a historically protected landmark and a symbol of the eventful history of Berlin itself. On the one hand, it is an expression of Nazi ideology and served in World War II as a weapons production site using forced labour.
