HousingAnywhere Acquires German Classifieds Website Studenten-WG

Rotterdam, January 14 2020 - Signifying a major step in its pan-European expansion, housing platform HousingAnywhere announces its acquisition of Hanover-based classifieds website Studenten-WG. HousingAnywhere, already the biggest platform for mid-term rental in Germany, and with an existing leadership position in cities like Berlin, Vienna, and Rotterdam, it will immediately gain market share in an array of German cities. With this acquisition, HousingAnywhere solidifies its position in the German real estate market, especially in the lower price segments, and materializes its ambition of becoming the largest online rental platform in Europe by 2022.

Studenten-WG was founded in 2000 as a student project by Sebastian Stadtlich and Thomas Winkler, and it has since become a household name among German students searching for accommodation in Germany and Austria. Today, the platform boasts more than 20,000 active advertisements and three million users. With the acquisition, both tenants and landlords advertising on Studenten-WG will be directed to the HousingAnywhere platform, where they will be granted easy access to the full HousingAnywhere portfolio and all of its technological solutions to finding accommodation or tenants.

Users will benefit from online viewings and paying rent-related bills online thanks to HousingAnywhere Payments. Djordy Seelmann, CEO of HousingAnywhere:

We will be welcoming millions of new users to our proptech platform, and they can immediately enjoy the benefits of increased choice in accommodation and convenience. In addition to our diverse, accessible, and affordable accommodation, the platform offers easy-to-manage bookings by curated landlords and tenants.

Thanks to this acquisition, Studenten-WG users now have access to an enhanced online experience, along with the full suite of tools on the HousingAnywhere platform, such as HousingAnywhere Payments, HousingAnywhere's anti-scam Artificial Intelligence and dedicated customer support in over eight languages. Accommodation providers will have access to a much larger platform with almost eight million users, which will offer support in non-technical fields, including marketing and business development. In terms of technical fields, the development of API integrations with channel managers and property management systems, will allow seamless portfolio management, thanks to the webhooks that update listings real-time. Providers will also benefit from HousingAnywhere’s partnerships with 150+ universities, connecting them to international students from all over the world.

This acquisition, the second in HousingAnywhere history, marks the commitment of the company towards locking in its most important markets. Seelmann:

We are ready to accelerate our already strong growth momentum. Over the previous months, our team undertook an amazing effort which resulted in sustainable triple-digit growth. Realizing our future growth through M&A is part of our vision. We are committed to the German and Austrian market and we plan to bring a strong contribution to improving the experience for both tenants and accommodation providers, to make online rental easier, safer and ultimately, more efficient.
